Award-Winning Landscape: Residential Remodel

Overview

FireSky was hired for a backyard design-to-build project that sought to increase the utility of an expansive backyard punctuated by greenery and mountainscape. The final design included separate spaces for grilling, dining and relaxing, along with walkways that showcased the beauty of the property.

Design

FireSky’s design team knew the homeowner wanted a small yet functional design that didn’t take away from the scenery beyond. With a compact construction and a C-shaped boundary for the fire pit that juts out over the rolling greenery that extends beyond the patio, our team saved space and made room for views on views. Dark colors were used to accentuate the surrounding nature and match the modernity of the house.

The project included the construction of a dining area, a grill station with storage and counter space, a relaxation area with a fire pit and pathways around the property. An open-holed covering provides the dining area with shade. The patio itself is built up multiple feet from the ground with plenty of foliage and shrubbery around it. Around the fire pit is a brick-lined garden for planting.

The design needed to be functional over a downward-sloping backyard, so the FireSky team created dining and relaxing areas on a slightly lower grade than the pathway from the house. With beautiful greenery and a distant mountainscape to show off, the team set the fire pit and lounging space apart from the rest of the property. Its positioning provides the homeowner and their guests with obstruction-free views, while its stony construction alludes to the mountains beyond.
